I am at a client and have popped in the MQ 6.0.0.0 disk Vista CD shared
to a Windows Server 2003 R2 Enterprise Edition.

The install goes fine (did it as 'Administrator').
Configured the "C:\Program Files\IBM\WebSphere MQ\bin\amqsvc.exe"
to run as 'mqm' (part of 'mqmgrp'). IBM folder is owned (and has full
permission) by 'mqmgrp'.

No matter what I do ... I keep getting this:

Code:
crtmqm TEST
AMQ8101: WebSphere MQ error (893) has occurred.

What the hell!? I suspect it has to do with the Active Directory ... here's the loggage:

Code:
----- amqxfdcp.c : 773 --------------------------------------------------------
2/15/2008 17:36:58 - Process(4880.1) User(mqm) Program(crtmqm.exe)
AMQ6125: An internal WebSphere MQ error has occurred.

EXPLANATION:
An internal error has occurred with identifier 208008F4.  This message is
issued in association with other messages.
ACTION:
Use the standard facilities supplied with your system to record the problem
identifier, and to save the generated output files. Contact your IBM support
center.  Do not discard these files until the problem has been resolved.
----- amqxfdcp.c : 735 --------------------------------------------------------
2/15/2008 17:36:58 - Process(4880.1) User(mqm) Program(crtmqm.exe)
AMQ6184: An internal WebSphere MQ error has occurred on queue manager TEST.

EXPLANATION:
An error has been detected, and the WebSphere MQ error recording routine has
been called. The failing process is process 4880.
ACTION:
Use the standard facilities supplied with your system to record the problem
identifier, and to save the generated output files. Contact your IBM support
center.  Do not discard these files until the problem has been resolved.

Descriptive eh?

Ok, you have a number of problem indicators there:

- you're using Windoze
- you've got Vista within 30 yards of you
- you're trying to run with plain v6
- you're using Win2003
- you've not told us (or apparently Googled) the ProbeId in the FDC files (the reason the message is so "descriptive" is that the detail is in the files it talks about)

If either mqm or the group mqmgrp are domain (as indicated by your reference to Active Directory) you're toast. Reinstall as a local id, and run as a local id.

Failing that, look up the ProbeId. And apply maintenance.

Thanks for the prompt response!

I shall uninstall the current gunk immediately.
I shall not use Active Directory ... local users only.
I shall copy the installation across to the Server 2003 machine.
I shall then install (running as local mqm user which will be part of local mqmgrp group).
After which I will apply some patchy goodness before I do anuthing else.

For more details, and discussions of how to use WMQ in a domain environment, the Search Button Is Your Friend. It's a common topic.

If the problem persists, your first response to that message is to look in the matching FDC file and ask Mr Google about the ProbeId.

Actually, your first response to that message under any circumstances in to look in the matching FDC file and ask Mr Google about the ProbeId. Possibly then asking Mr IBM (via a PMR) about the ProbeId (as the message says).

I wonder how you were able to create a user called mqm? The installation should have created a group called mqm. Other versions of Windows become highly incensed when a user ID is attempted with the same name as a group.

I would recommend you install as local administrator, just as you did. If you are set on running on a local ID, MQ will run nicely without intervention as the default musr_mqadmin ID. If you are really set on your own local ID, I would create mqadmin or something and put it into the local mqm group. I would not attempt to run MQ from a group other than mqm.

It is really very possible to run MQ successfully with a Windows domain account, if you so desire. I've done it with dozens and dozens of queue managers.

For reference it is possible to create a domain id called mqm, which you can TRY to use on a server in the domain but it will fall over (quite possibly in this way).

Its a restriction for the windows platform... You CANNOT mix the local mqm group with a user called mqm.

On windows, mqm MUST be a local group, and (admistrative to MQ) authorization is granted by membership of that group (or administrators).
