Hi,

Basically tried to install WID 6.1 download from Passport advantage. Getting a null pointer when running the Install Manager.

Any hints, techniques or workarounds on how to get this installed?
I have already tried:

-Read the error log and nothing useful
- Unzipping to same directory.
- Different PC.

ps: It is on XP.

At what point are you getting the null pointer?

1.Basically run the lunchpad.exe.
2.Select WID Install on the Launchpad panel.
3.Installation Manager then loads.
4.Panel comes up with 2 products trees list ( all box are checked)
"This is the Select Packages Screen".
5. Click "Next"
<< Pop up error happens here>>>

ps: I also tried running "checking for new version" - but this just delays the problem.

Lunchpad? Does it serve a cold buffet while it's doing the version check??

Man, there's a really bad old American TV reference in there, that I'm just not going to make.

Wilsonjohn24 -
What selections do you make on the "Select Packages Screen"?

Also, just as a check - do you have admin access on the machine? Do you have all the necessary packages in the right places? How did you unpack what you got from PA?

lol - I wish IBM did a launchpad the canteen here is dire!

I just leave the selection on default which is two product trees each with 1 child element.

Yes - I do have admin access as I have RSA, Broker Toolkit, WMB, WMQ all happily eating away my hard disk. Also had WID 6.02 Running fine..

Currently downloading again ( not going though company firewall ) but this is more clutching at straws as the size of files etc seem to correspond...

Basically unzip to the same folder as it says( link below) then it works no problem

http://www.ibm.com/developerworks/forums/thread.jspa?messageID=14030531

My Mistakes:
I unzip it to the relative path - which did not work...
Then I manually merge after reading the the above link- so clearly I have had a copy/paste ( human = me ) error when I tried to merge.

Yes it may sound strange to manually merge blah blah - but the directory structure was simple and it takes over 2+ hours to unzip.

My Assesment Score:

Effort: A ( God loves a trier )
Copy+Paste Skill: F
Ability to Shortcut: F

I still want to know where I can find the lunchpad.exe - I think John is hiding a much more tasty way of installing via a little known Easter Egg (anything called lunchpad must be an Easter Egg!).

Anyhoo, as I made the same mistake after being carefully guided by John I found this an extremely useful post and therefore it got my vote for post of the month ...
