A SupportPac which allows for the administration of queue managers (both local and remote) from the Windows PowerShell command-line and script environment.

PowerShell is an extensible command line interface shell and scripting language product developed by Microsoft. This SupportPac contains a library which allows for command-line and script-based administration of WebSphere MQ queue managers from the PowerShell.

It is similar to the standard runmqsc interface, but allows for a number of improvements, including more powerful queries and filtering and support for administering remote queue managers.

Possible Uses
This SupportPac would be useful for WebSphere MQ administrators wanting to administer all of their queue managers from a single Windows workstation, in conjunction with other PowerShell system administration tasks.

Do you want to be able to administer queue manager objects spanning multiple queue managers and/or servers in a single command?

Do you want support for more complex queries and filters at the command line than runmqsc can provide?

Do you want to be able to search for queue manager objects across multiple queue managers using queries that include multiple properties, with support for regular expressions, Date/Time comparisons and more?

Do you want to be able to script Healthcheck-style checks of your queue managers - automating their execution with the ability to write results to XML, CSV, HTML or other files?

Do you want to be able to take snapshots of your queue manager configurations, with the ability to script diff's against those snapshots at a later date?

Do you already use Windows PowerShell to administer other products and want a consistent way to manage WMQ too?

This SupportPac was written to allow for these sorts of tasks, and it is hoped that it will be a useful addition to the tools available to WMQ sys admins.

I'd be very interested to hear any views and comments on the SupportPac.

Can I use this on Linux?

Windows PowerShell itself - of which this SupportPac extends by providing a library of additional commands - is a Microsoft product that is currently Windows-only.

That means you can only run the commands from a Windows workstation.

However, you can use it to administer a queue manager on a remote Linux server.
