I have a doubt..

we have two servers having identical set up for failover purpose.

MQ configuration also exactly same. Both are pointing to same server(Mainframe) QMGR with their channels (with same name). WAS is also present in this. Since suddenly more hits came to Primary Server, it failed to process and stopped ultimately. That time we found even Secondary Server stopped working since 5 years. Amazing ? but true. I found even QMGR is not running in the Secondary Server since 5 years. Someone stopped with immediate option as per error log. Now Primary is working fine. But client decided to make the Secondary server live as well.

Each Server has Disk Mirroring.

Now in this case I have some queries

1. Did they stopped the QMGR since it is Secondary Server(failover)
2. if I start the QMGR in Secondary Server will it give confusion to the Destination Server(Mainframe) QMGR? or anything happen ?

please give me clarification in this. I want to start the QMGR. I never worked with mirroring concept before or failover server.

This is not a fail over configuration. This will not work.

I will assume the two QMGRs with the same name are on different machines.

First, the z/OS QMGR has channels back to a specific QMGR on a specific machine. Also, the z/OS QMGR will have channel sequence numbers to the active QMGR and that will not match the shutdown QMGR.

All the messages on the failed QMGR will be trapped on the failed QMGR even if you managed to get the shutdown QMGR running.

First, you need to understand if you want 'Service' availability or hardware availability.

Once you know what you want. Then let us know.

You are correct to have serious doubts about your configuration.
