Hi masters, I really need your help in fixing this problem. We tar the /var/mqm /opt/mqm directory from one machine to the new machine. Now when we try to start the mqm on the new machine(HP-UX B.11.23), we got this error message, though the processes seems to be running after issuing strmqm:

"MQSeries was unable to open a message catalog to display an error message for message id hexadecimal 8003, with inserts 0, 0, , , and BHFSPD01"

and actully every command we issue will get this similar error message with different message id number . Also I cannot connect to the queue manager via explorer.

I believe there are something missing when they copy over, but I don't know what. Our MQ version is: 5.2.

The amq.cat file is located:
/usr/lib/nls/msg/C/amq.cat

Can someone please shed me some light on this issue?

Thank you very much

Brian

Why have you copied the directories from one machine to another rather than installing MQ properly on the new machine & copying the configuration & queue contents with saveqmgr & qload (or similar)?

Your problem is that MQ is not properly installed on the new box. I would guess that the directories have lost setuid and other properties in the copy. The message catalog issue indicated NLSPATH in the profile is not set (or not set correctly).

Your method is flawed. Even if you get it to work, the new machine will be in an unsupported configuration because MQ has not been installed. This will bite you if something goes wrong; I'd also be surprised if you could apply maintenance because the installer typically checks what's been installed.

Thank you very much for a reply. I know it sounds like a stupid idea to do this way. Long story short, we have a new system which is supposedly working only for MQ version 6(Even V5.3 was not tested for this kind of machine configuration according to IBM), Someone just wanted to see whether V5.2 can still be used in the new machine. Plus we don't have the software anyway to do a clean install. That is how we tried to play with it. I did a lots of search, it seems that there are lots of issues based on the FDC report. I am going to tell them just to purchase a new version.
Again your reply is very much appreciated.

Why in the name of anything would anyone want v5.2?
