MQ v6
Don't worry. This question isn't about emulation...at least not directly.
I am looking for IBM documentation that says running the PA-RISC version of MQ under Itanium (via Aries) is unsupported.
It's implied several places, but never explicitly stated.

I guess that IBM doesn't want to list every platform on the planet and say "we don't support this one, either".
So they just list the ones that are supported, and assume you can figure out the difference?
You could ask your Sales Representative if you need something more "official" than that... _________________ I am *not* the model of the modern major general. |

I'd be most interested to know if anyone anywhere has actually tried it and what the outcome was.

Hi,
I don't know what Aries is but there is a native release of both of MQ server & client code base for HP-UX on Itanium (i.e. 11.23i). Therefore, just use that particular version and then you don't have to worry about emulation.

Here's my problem with interpreting their system requirements.
Both Itanium and PA-RISC are fully supported.
I have PA-RISC applications.
On an Itanium machine, I cannot link PA-RISC and Itanium apps.
Using the HP Aries emulator, I can run the PA-RISC applications on Itanium.
Theoretically, I could run PA-RISC MQ under the emulator too. I know it's a bad idea, which is why I'm looking for some disclaimer from IBM...

Hi,
Just copy the apps source code to the HP-UX Itanium box and build them natively for HP-UX Itanium.
Problem solved. Yes, you will need to 2 build servers (PA_RISC & Itanium) but this is an easier solution than doing software emulation. The bonus is that you WILL be supported by IBM.

I have heard of people running at least the MQ client on the wrong hardware, using Aries.
But it is absolutely NOT supported. If you try to phone in a PMR, be prepared to hear giggling. |
