Hi,

I am using the sample HL7 message set provided in IA9N to model an HL7 message using MRM in TDS format. My requirement is only concerned with the MSH segment to inspect a certain field.

When I use a sample Input message, I can see the logical tree definition in the Debugger as given below:

InputRoot
MRM
MSH
MSH.1.FieldSeparator = |
MSH.2.ServiceString=^~\\&
…
…
…
MSH.9.MessageType
MSG.1=xxx
MSG.2=xxx

My problem is that I am not able to store the values of MessageType values in variables.

Could any of you let me know if I am missing out something? I have used the following code to assign the values but both doesn’t seem to work.

SET sMessageType1 = InputRoot.MRM.MSH."MSH.9.MessageType"."MSG.1";
SET sMessageType1 = InputRoot.MRM.MSH[0]."MSH.9.MessageType"."MSG.1";

Yes. You are missing out details and namepaces
- 'doesn’t seem to work' is not a great problem description. Always describe the symptoms ( I suspect you are getting NULL instead of the field value ).
- Your ESQL path does not specify namespaces

Your first mistake was to try and do this yourself. You should reference the HL7 message set project from your message flow project - then you will get auto-completion in the ESQL editor, making this mistake much less likely.

Thanks Kimbert for your response.

I am sorry for not giving an eloborate desciption but as you mentioned the problem was because I had not specified the namespaces.

And it also taught me the benefits of using a trace node(${Root}) than using a debugger all the time
