Hi,
I trust that you are well - I need some assistance regarding the best practices for migrating MQ from version 7.0 to 7.5 with the AIX TL patch upgrade from 5.3 to 7.1. We basically want to keep the same objects and MQ configuration from the current server which we want to move to the new AIX server.
Could you kindly advise on what the best practice is for this.

Rebuild the queue manager on the WMQv7.5 server using the same scripts you used to build the queue manager on the WMQv7.0 machine, which you undoubtably have stored in your source control or change management system.
Or just extract the object definitions from the existing queue manager and run those into the new one if you've not kept records.

Or install MQ 7.5 on the existing server as a separate installation, stop the qmgr, start it up again under 7.5, shut it down again, and then back it up and restore it to the new system.
And then wonder why you didn't take the opportunity to relocate the queue and log files of the qmgr to a shared directory so that they could be easily moved to alternate systems. |

Excellent argument to always use separate directories if not file systems for each and every Qmgr.
If you do that, then it is much easier to support the Qmgr as HA or MI (Multi-Instance) in the future.
Another reason to "keep em separated" by file systems, is to ensure that one Qmgr cannot fill the file system and affect the other Qmgrs. |
