Environment is Windows 2003 SP 1 and SAP Adapter 6.0.4:

I'm trying to add the SAP Adapter as a Windows service using the following cmd:

cwservice -xi -mode=Manual -tCONNECTOR -cC:\IBM\WA\connectors\SAP\start_SAP_service.bat -sSAP -iWMQI_WAS -p55501

The service is installed OK, but when I try to start it, the progress bar runs for approx. 60 secs. and then times out: Error code 1503.

The log and trace files show that the adapter has started successfully and is polling, BUT the "Services" display under Windows permanently shows a status of "Starting" for the SAP adapter service. This is a problem because it means I can't manipulate the status of the service using the "Services" display.

Has anyone come across this before?

If the SAP adaptor is in any way based on SAP JCO you could extend the adaptor to show the status...

Enjoy

I'm sorry, maybe I'm being a little slow here, but I don't understand your reply...

Well you'd have to know whether the adapter is based on com.sap.xxxx.jco.*;
Then you'd have to read the corresponding documentation to understand how the server status is being passed back.
Finally your adapter probably extends JCOServer so all you need is to look at the adapter's method, extract the server and implement a StatusListener....
