Several large retailers apparently run at least one queue manager per retail location.

I heard about a certain American retail giant that had 10,000 stores and correspondingly the same number of queue managers (1 NT box in each store). This was many years ago (obviously if it was NT ) and I think they may have moved on to something else.

doesn't mention a network size, but it does mention message rates:
