We need to develop an MQ program in 'C' on Solaris 8.

We were thinking of using the AMI - is this available on Solaris 8 (the IBM programming patterns redbook mentions versions 6 or 7)?

Anyone care to comment on the AMI on Sun? We could of course use the MQI but assume that the AMI is a better architectural approach?

Alternatively the AMI might just be another IBM "white elephant" that people don't really use?

Any views?

The book that you are looking at probably came out before version 8. The AMI manual just states Sun Solaris and the MQSeries product itself states 2.8.

I'm not sure how many people are actually using AMI. I can tell you that my group does support for MQSeries and we've seen a rise in the number of AMI types of questions. However, this could simply be because it is newer and not because it is being more used.
