Security accounted for 20 percent of technology spending last year and it's expected to rise, according to a report released Tuesday. The Computing Technology Industry Association (CompTIA) surveyed 1,070 organisations and found that on average, they spent one-fifth of their technology budgets on security-related spending in 2006. That's up from the 15 percent of IT budgets spent on security in 2005, and the 12 percent spent in 2004. |

From what I can gather, this is not true in the MQ market-place.
Two years ago, I ran an ad with the following heading:

Did you know a basic setup of WebSphere MQ Server potentially allows any user to freely access any message in any queue?
Under this scenario, any user can browse, insert, update or delete messages in any queue and there would be no record of this activity. How safe is your confidential business data? |
I wonder if the tide is changing?

I hear you, Roger. I have frequently been shocked at the poor security I have found in MQSeries environments over the years. Most of it is caused by non-trained (in MQSeries) people administering MQ environments. It was bad enough when that type started developing MQSeries applications. Now, they've worked there way into admin roles. That's what happens when you turn the whole ball of wax over to the accountants! _________________ IBM Certified MQSeries Specialist

I guess that's why the big 'push' for products like Datapower and it's capabilities for message level type security (as well as transport layer)... _________________ IBM Certified - SOA Solution Designer & WebSphere Datapower SOA Appliances |

Viewed the other way, businesses have traditionally underspent on security; so now they're catching up.
With Soxly, identity-theft, a variety of highly publicized ooooops by govt, banks, insurance companies let data get out of their hands, it's well past time to spend money on security. |
