Has anyone had to rename an exisiting queue manager on z/OS? We are looking into renaming to get away from the IBM defaults (CSQ#) and I am doing research to make sure 1st that we can, and 2nd to be sure I have concidered everything. Haven't found anything in the IBM manuals yet. Any help would be apprciated

I am not sure about renaming a queue manager, because I haven't tried it, but if you add a new subsystem id and build the mstr and chin started tasks with the first four characters equal to the subsystem name, you should be able to use the same page datasets, boot straps, and log files.

That is what I am hoping for. I will be testing later today and will post the results.

Hi ,

you cannot rename a QMgr becoz, there will be a map with the QMgr Name and Logs (Both error & system Logs) and also entries with in other parts of the System like Configuration files and their store houses

Judging from what I saw in the flat file copies of page sets it seems the Qmgr name is in the page set as well. No idea if this leads to errors if the page sets are 're-used', but I guess so..

I think the only option you have is to create a 2nd Qmgr with the right name, define all system components, offload all the Queues to data sets and define & reload them on the new Qmgr...

Then you'll have to find a way to have all references to the old queue manager going to the new one.

Good luck ...

Unfortunatly you are all correct. In performing some tests I found that the logs, bsds, and pagesets all have to be rebuilt for the queue manager with the new name. Thanks to all for their input

There is no way to rename a queue manager. But there is a way to get around.

Create a new queue manager and copy page sets, logs and BSDS data sets.

Page sets can be easily renamed, just remember to point to the new names in the procedure used to start MQ.

With logs and BSDS it's more difficult, since BSDS stores information about log names. To rename them:

- run the CSQJU004 utility to get start and end RBAs for each log and their time stamp
- rename the logs
- create new BSDS
- run the CSQJU003 utility to tell MQ which logs to use (in SYSIN DD use sth like below:

NEWLOG DSNAME=SPIN.LOGCOPY1.DS01,COPY1,
STARTRBA=0000CA800000,ENDRBA=0000CAC37FFF,
STARTIME=20021490951039,ENDTIME=20021491408223

where STARTRBA, ENDRBA, STARTIME, ENDTIME are from CSQJU004 output
