before installing a fix pack I always backup the Qmgr files (just incase

)

stopped QueueManagers,
stopped MQ Services

copied all files and got a 'lock' on ..\QueueManagerName\ssl\key.sth

anyone an idea of which process has this file locked???

did you check in the task manager for processes that are running with the user with which mq processes run. Sometimes MQ triggering starts some app and that application may not end/die. Normally these applications also will have the userid same as runmqtrm process.
