First of all, I´d really to thank all admin/moderator folks about the excelent job keeping this forum running. I´ve been using it for about 12 months and have gained a lot of useful knowledge on MQ.
I am back here to ask for a best practice. I noticed that every sender channel I create on Windows installations they have the default property value for DISCINT set to 6000.
What happens next is that many channels just disconnect after some time interval, and everyday I had to start them again.
Sure, I ZEROed the field and everything runs nice now.
But I ask myself if this is the correct thing to do, since this "6000" (not zero) is the default value and it is funny why IBM sets this as a default knowing that will bug every MQ admin around... |

DISCINT of 0 means that the channel will never ever ever disconnect on it's own.
Most admins leave this value alone, and configure the channels to trigger.
Then the channel can go inactive after the discint, assuming there is no more work to be done. This allows the network traffic and memory usage of a running channel to go away.
Then when work needs to be done (messages on the XMITQ), the channel is triggered and starts running again - without intervention. _________________ I am *not* the model of the modern major general. |

0. Never disconnect. Never ever never go INACTIVE? Nah. Not a good idea.
Lots of indepth posts on this subject. Do a search and you'll find some good points to consider. _________________ Peter Potkay
