I was trying to use the following ESQL declaration with variable initialization in my code and I got a syntax error. This is an example
given in CAST function section in Message broker help.

DECLARE now CHARACTER = CAST(CURRENT_TIMESTAMP AS CHARACTER FORMAT 'yyyyMMdd-HHmmss');

Any suggestions why this could be happening?

Start by removing the equal sigh between CHARACTER and CAST
and try again.

The Declare verb does not use an assignment.
