Hi guys,
I am new to MQ and I have a question. I want to install mq v6 on a server with OS linux. Actually this server has to vm servers linux01 and linux02. Now my question is whether I have to install seperately on linux01 and linux02?
please suggest me thanks!! |

Why would you imagine that WebSphere MQ has been written in any way to know anything about VMWare?
Why would you imagine that VMWare would be written in such a way that it would appear 'differently' to a WebSphere MQ installer that was built to work on any supported Linux platform?

| Surely this depends on what you actually want to do? I may be missing your point, but as jefflowrey says, VMWare et al knows nothing about your MQ install, so if you need installs on both machines, youre going to have to do it twice - unless you clone the VMware machine and change all the relevant settings for your second server? |

I think that you guys misunderstood my post. My intent had nothing to do with a pre-conceived notion that it is going to be totally different at all - I was just simply curious as to how the install/config was going for the original poster of this thread ("career"). I know "MQ is MQ" - that's one of the reasons MQ is loved by many, right?

Hi Mike and others !
How far are u on this? I have not yet started. I am not sure whether I have to install on both servers, Linux01 and Linux02 seperately which are physically on the same machine which share the same memory reosurce or whether to install on one (both will share)?
Its most likely that i will be creating 2 Queue Managers on linux01 and linux02 and perform clusterring and may implement/ test for HA later.
Could any one help??  |

I might be able to help within the next few weeks. I am about to install MQ on z/Linux as we see what this might be able to do for us as it pertains to server consolidation. I'll keep you posted.

Guys let me rephrase the question.
We have 2 linux servers linux01 and linux02 and shared storage is available.
whats the best method to acheive high availablilty.
Do we have to install MQ on both servers in local storage?
Do i install MQ from 1st server on shared storgae and just configure the profile on 2nd server for the shared storage.

The best method to achieve High Availability with WebSphere MQ on Unix is to follow the instructions in Support Pac MC91.
Any attempt to engineer this yourself, without understanding that SupportPac and WebSphere MQ very very well can very quickly lead to disasterous consequences.
You probably should spend some time re-reading the sections on Installation in the Quick Beginnings Guide for Linux, too - as you seem to be misunderstanding how WebSphere MQ gets installed.
