Hi All,
I am new to MQ and have two basic queries
1. What is the difference between a Refresh Pack and a Fix Pack.
2. Can i install the latest Fix Pack for MQ i.e. 6.0.2.1 without installing the Refresh Pack 6.0.2.0. I am currently running MQ on v 6.0.1.1 |

Hi
1. What is the difference between a Refresh Pack and a Fix Pack.
New terminlogy for MQ 6 instead of CSD they are using Refresh Pack here
Big difference b/w Fix pack and Refresh pack
2. Can i install the latest Fix Pack for MQ i.e. 6.0.2.1 without installing the Refresh Pack 6.0.2.0. I am currently running MQ on v 6.0.1.1
Here the 2 is Refresh pack and 1 is the fix
So install the Refresh pack 2 and then install the fixpack 1 over that
Thanks and Regards

Thanks Gaya3....
I read somewhere in the installation documents that we have to uninstall the previous Fix Pack and Refresh Pack before installing 6.0.2.
Does anyone have an idea about this. |

Not Required, go ahead and install above of it, if it is MQ V6 itself
But
You have to un-install the previous product Say MQ V5.3 and its fix pack before installing MQ V6 and its Refresh packs
Thanks and regards

1. What is the difference between a Refresh Pack and a Fix Pack.
Refresh pack is a cumulative collection of all of the function(s) and fixes that are available since the base version of the product. The refresh pack may contain function and fixes not previously released, and they can span multiple products or components. A refresh pack can be applied on top of any previously-shipped maintenance to bring the system up to the current refresh pack level.
Where as a Fix pack is a specific fix 'package' that is a cumulative collection of all fixes available up to that point for the base release. A fix pack can include fixes that have not been previously released and can span multiple products or components. A fix pack can be applied on top of any previously shipped maintenance to bring the system up to the current fix pack level.
This will give you the difference between the two. In summary, RF may include new Function and Fixes not released previously. Whereas the Fix Pack may include fix for the already released function.

The above explanation can answer this question as well. |

You can upgrade from MQ 5.3 to 6.0 without uninstalling 5.3. I did 3 such upgrades just this past week on Windows 2003. _________________ Peter Potkay

I believe Linux is the only OS that you have to uninstall MQ5.3, before upgrading to MQ V6.
So.....if you are upgrading MQ V6 on Linux, do you still need to rebuild all the qmgr, queues, channels, etc.? I know they are still there after removal of MQ and install of MQ V6, but are the useable??? We have been rebuilding everything on our upgrades (Linux) so far, but if there is any time saver, I would like to know. |

Hi
then something went wrong while upgrading
there is no need to rebuild any of the mq objects
just to start it using strmqm -c <qmgr name> at first
and use it.
Thanks and Regards

Looks like Solaris also requires you to uninstall MQ 5.3 then install 6.0 according to the Quick Beginnings manual for MQ 6.0 on Solaris. I have a few of those to do in a couple of months and just started reading up on it. _________________ Peter Potkay
