I need to try something out on this, in the meantime, if you know your way around Excel or 1-2-3 they are very handy for for cleaning up things like copybooks and concatenating strings to make useable ESQL assignments.

Should be easier that 100% hand crank!

Also, if using a copybook, you're most likely to also be using an MRM CWF message definition, so you should be able to generate ESQL using the Control Centre build time drag and drop functions.
