JOB DESCRIPTION:

The candidate is responsible for providing administration, trouble shooting and coordination to enable the implementation of applications and services across a broad range of business units. The initial focus will be on integration, implementation and support of technologies to provide highly reliable, supportable technical solutions for the company Shared Infrastructure. This position requires practical knowledge of MQ deployment methodologies, as well as providing stewardship to the company standards and gating processes. The primary role of the MQ Infrastructure Engineer is to act as a designer, systems integrator, and subject matter expert for MQ within the Shared infrastructure.

The deliverables include the development of the standards for deploying applications on the product, product installations and implementing project management (coordinating hardware, O/S, technical applications, networking, data storage, operations) and technical support of business project initiatives. The Infrastructure Engineer will provide production support (escalation level) for MQ and related products. The Infrastructure Engineer will ensure that he/she is aware of the company standards and best practices, evaluate their applicability to the application being presented by the Line of Business, and work with teams to implement the application according to the company architecture.

The technologies currently in use, or envisioned as part of this role, include the following:
- IBM WebSphere MQ Server
- SUN/Solaris as the hardware/operating systems of choice (& some IBM/NT)
Active Directory

The Technical Consultant will work on a regular basis with the following groups:
- Engineering teams (UNIX, DBA)
- Operations support teams
- Development application teams
- Consultants and external subject matter experts

REQUIREMENTS:
- In-depth systems knowledge and experience with WebSphere MQ (installation and maintenance)
- In-depth knowledge of UNIX principles and applications with the focus on Solaris
- General knowledge of database principles and applications
- General knowledge of TCP/IP and DNS/CSS network principles and applications
- Project management skills and experience
- Ability and willingness to develop documentation on technical architecture, system designs and hardware/software/application configurations and operations
- Ability to present technical proposals and business cases to senior management in a business-like and professional manner
- Ability to manage the work of other parties, subject matter experts, development groups, support groups and operational staff in a project team environment
- A true team player who will actively share and receive technical knowledge with peers and support groups

Education:
- Post secondary education in computer science or related discipline, and/or equivalent in experience
- Subject specific courses
