Hi,
We are running MQSeries 5.3 CSD12 on AIX 5.3 and we intend upgrading to version MQ 6.0.2
I was going through the migration manual also the quick beginings guide for AIX and had the following question:
1. The manual talks about uninstalling 5.3 filesets and installing 6.0 filesets.
Question:
If one uninstalls the filesets, i believe it would also remove the directories/filesystems, also the user mqm and group mqm. Please correct me if my understanding is right. If it does, then all the queue managers and objects that we had created, how do we bring it up? Where is the migration?
Don't we have a "in-place" upgrade procedure. I hate to uninstall things.
How are the others doing migration? Kindly advise.
Also if you have a documentation, kindly pass it on. That would really help. Many thanks,
Regards,

Your understanding is wrong,
This is what you have to do and will do
1. it wont delete the qmgrs directory
2. it wont remove the user mqm
3. You can un-install the mq series 5.3 and CSD in a proper way (Take back up of the qmgrs using saveqmgr tool, *safer side)
4. Install mq 6.0.2.0
5. start the qmgr using strmqm -c <qmgr name> it will set to new file system
thanks and regards

Thanks Gayathri.
What is the saveqmgr tool? Are you referring to taking a snapshot using the rcdmqobj command?
If not kindly let me know the name of the supportpack. So i can install and take a backup.
Also the start of the queuemanager with option -c What will that do? and if its necessary.
Thanks,

Hi
-c option....
Starts the queue manager, redefines the default and system objects, then stops the queue manager. (Use the crtmqm command to create the default and system objects for a queue manager.) Any existing system and default objects belonging to the queue manager are replaced if you specify this flag.
Thanks and Regards
