Can someone give me an overview of MQ CAF?

I have a mainframe qmgr and a SUN Solaris qmgr currently. I would like to eliminate the SUN and go from Windows to the mainframe.

Do you install CAF on the mainframe? How do you address each work-station?

Yes

Same way you do currently from Sun. All CAF gives you is the ability to establish client connections to a mainframe queue manager in the same way you can on a distributed platform.

Whatever's clienting onto the mainframe needs the client libraries. In much the same way they would if they were clienting onto a distributed platform.

And why would you need to do anything to a windows server? When did that appear in your architecture?

Probably here:

I assumed he meant Windows workstations.....

And if there's already a Windows server, why would he need CAF to bypass the Sun box?

Got me. I was assuming (and we all know what that does right?) he meant he used the Sun box as a hub for his windows clients to attach to in order to get to the real computer and that he wanted to nix the Sun licence. But then when I reread it I thought he may have been looking at replacing the Sun box with a Windows hub....in which case he wouldn't need CAF as you say.

If he was just wanting to know if he needed to add anything to his already existing Windows clients.....you have answered that.

Hey, I started this assuming business.
