I need to remove Server only (v6.0.2.0) but leave the Client in place. This is on Solaris 10.
I think we will need to 'pkgrm' the refresh pak and then 'pkgrm' the whole 'mqm' package, and then reinstall the Client. Probably should clean up leftover files and directories, too, before reinstalling the Client.
Thoughts?
Thanks,
Shirley

Methinks my thoughts are the same as your thoughts. Have fun. |

Hi,
Yes, remove all MQ packages then install the 'standard MQ client packages'. But do not use the 'client install' from the server CD as it is only for use when you install the server (special edition or special libraries).

Roger,
I downloaded the Solaris client from the Passport Advantage site, and then downloaded the 6.0.2.1 update from the CSD/fixpack/refresh site.
There is not a 6.0.2.1 package specifically for the client, so I am *assuming* that the fix will update what it finds (which will be the client). I believe that's how it worked the last time I updated a client installation.
Thank you for the tip about not using the server CD. I did not know that information.

Hi,
No, I wouldn't apply the standard CSD/fixpack/refresh pack to the client install. Those are generally for the server edition.

And here I thought the fixpack install detects whether it is server or client and only installs the appropriate libraries...?? _________________ MQ & Broker admin |

Are you sure? Is it documented some where?

I know it works like this in Unix (AIX) and complains about missing files etc ... if you try the wrong install.
You should check at the same time there might be a file for the Server + client and one for the client only? _________________ MQ & Broker admin |

I've opened a PMR to ask about this. I have used the refresh package on a Client-only installation and I thought it succeeded. It did not complain about missing files that I recollect. (Solaris)
But we'll see what the PMR yields.
If the posted fix pack is not the one to use for client-only, then I don't know how to get it refreshed.... What I downloaded says it is v6.0. |

I've never had issues applying FP/CSD/RPS to client installs.
But I've never done that on Solaris, either. _________________ I am *not* the model of the modern major general. |

I believe the complaint about missing files was if you mistakenly had downloaded the DCE CSD pack instead of the normal one and your installation was not DCE... _________________ MQ & Broker admin |

Straight from the horse's mouth, so to speak.... The RP for Solaris is the same, regardless of the original installation type.
From IBM in the PMR:
Quote: |
You are correct that the refresh packs and fix packs are the
same for the server, server/client, and client only installations.
Also the install process is the same. The installation program
will recognize what is installed on the machine and act
accordingly. |
This is consistent with my experience with Solaris Refresh Packs.
