I'm trying to install 5.2 on solaris 2.8 and I get a message telling me I don't have enough storage available when I run the pkgadd utility. Any idea what pkgadd is checking for during the early part of the install?

I've got a *very* simple disk setup, one slice containing all disk space (14GB). (I know, I know, not the right way to do it but that's what I inherited).
I've created the directory /var/mqm and it is owned by mqm:mqm.
I've updated the kernel parameters (and rebooted).

Is it possible that the pkgadd utility can't work with a disk slice that big or
that MQ can't be loaded on a partition that big? Does MQ require an actual, separate /var mount point (This disk only has / as a mount point).

I went ahead with the install anyway (since I knew I had enough storage)
and files all look o.k., but crtmqm fails with a storage error.

Thanks, Ben

Hi,

did you set your kernel parameters and reboot before creating your queue manager? And how much free disk space have you got?

The directory /var/mqm doesn't have to be a seperate mount point - it's just recommended.

I very much doubt that the problem is the partition is too big (> 2Gb) - we have filesystems as large or larger on earlier revs. of Solaris and MQ.

HTH

P.S. Can you cut and paste the actual error message(s), both for the pkgad and crtmqm?

Turned out to be a kernel problem. I'd set shmmax thinking the value was in 1K blocks instead of just bytes. Once I multiplied by 1000, it worked much better <grin>. Interesting the the pkgadd noticed the problem during the install. I'd expect crtmqm to complain but its pretty neat that pkgadd did a check.

Thanks, Ben
