Ok. I know this has to be documented in the manual somewhere and would be excited if somebody can point me there. I have searched and usually find what I'm after. So, TIA for that or any answer to this.

I bring up an xwindows session on my box, ssh over to a linux server, and desire to bring up the mq explorer. I can bring up gqview and calctool no problem. So, I got the xwindows basic functionality down. I try to bring up explorer by running "strmqcfg". If I'm on the box - that brings up the gui. It doesn't work from my box tho (like gqview and calctool do).
thanks for your consideration

Hi,

Are you running under the same UserId when using XWindows as when you are running natively on the box?

If you start it from a shell prompt, do you get any error messages?

I'm guessing that you have the DISPLAY environment variable set?
Code:
export DISPLAY=27.27.27.27:0.0

Regards,
Roger Lacroix

Correct. The id is the same.

Yeah, the DISPLAY is set right..evidenced also by gqview and calctool working as expected.

I assume this is not an uncommon activity - using xwindows to get at explorer or toolkit on linux. I could not, for the life of me, locate where there was any documentation around that type of access tho.

Have you had any luck in getting this to work?

If not, a colleague of mine has written a post on using WMQ Explorer in this way on the 'Hursley on WMQ' blog - it might be worth a look. (And if it doesn't solve your problem, please do add a comment to let us know)

I hope it helps

Regards

D

Thanks for the link. Great post.

The steps outlined are what I followed (tho, that post definitely would've saved me some time I'm sure in trying to determine what to do)...I think the answer may lie in one of the comments. That the WMQ SOE does not support cygwin and a variety of other xservers.

The only thing that still seems inconsistent is the fact that it can be brought up at the console - with cygwin being the xserver. So, I'm still scratching my head about that.

Sorry to hear that you're still having problems. While cygwin might not be formally supported, I am aware that people have had it working before - so it might be worth pursuing further.

If you add a comment to his post with any specific errors that you're getting, then Pete might be able to add something that we've missed?
