Hello,
I need to install version 5.3 and version 6.0 of the 'Mq client' on a host and I have a few questions:
1) Is it possible to install them for differen users (i.e. user 'mqm5' and user 'mqm6')?
2) Will installing the client libraries as an user other than mqm result in difficulties?

Regards,
Thomas.

No, you can't install different versions on the same machine.

What's the requirement? AFAIK both versions of the client work equally well with both levels of queue manager.

But to answer your questions:

1) Yes
2) No. Client security is not related to who installs the client, so the installing user id is irrelevant.

Really? Not even if you change the path?

Can't say I've ever tried it (see my previous comment re compatability) but I'd have thought it would have worked.

My signature is again validated. Perhaps I should add "Never underestimate the educational power of MQSeries.net"

It's not supported, and not recommended, I guess it might work.

Even if you can, I again question why you'd want to?

And echo your comments about it being supported. Being certain about which version your app was using would be another area requiring some caution and tight control.

Currently I'm building a small MQ-Client application which will be used for two different customers. For reasons unknown to me, one demands the client to be linked and build on the old Mq 5.3 version. The other client wants his Mq client to be build for Mq 6.0. I don't think there's a good technical reason for this, it's probably more of a management decision.
But what can I do now? I can't set up two different buildhosts just to build this small app.
Have you got any ideas?

Why would the application build be different? You're not supplying the MQ client are you?

Develop it on v5.3 CSD 12 and it will work just fine on v6.

Or use Microsoft's free Virtual PC or the VMware product to have two images. I would imagine most developers use virtual machines extensively for this reason.

If it's *just* compiling/linking... and you're not going to run in production this way...

You can install the v5.3 client version, remove the registry entries, and then install v6 into a different location.

It does have that special ring of brainlessness doesn't it?

I'll do it like this (on HP-UX):
- Install 5.3.
- Move Installation to /opt/mqm5.3.
- Install 6.0.
- Move Installation to /opt/mqm6.0.
- Make /opt/mqm a link to /opt/mqm... as required for the build.
- Do the same for /var/mqm

Thank's for your help!

Again:
It might be possible, but definitely not supported and recommended
