Current setup: AIX with WMQ v5.3 csd11, HA managed by Veritas

WMQ executables are in /usr/mqm on each LPAR; data and log files in /var/mqm and /var/mqm/log are mounted by Veritas when queue manager is brought up.

Our plan for migration to v6 is to move queue manager to LPAR B, uninstall v5.3 and install v6 on LPAR A, then move queue manager to LPAR A and repeat the upgrade steps on LPAR B.

I know that the first time the queue manager is brought up under v6 I should use "strmqm -c" and NOT start a listener. No problem there.

But the AIX Quick Beginnings guide makes me wonder if /var/mqm and /var/mqm/log need to be mounted on LPAR A during the installation of v6. Are there any files there that get touched during the installation itself, or will we be safe to have them offline until the time the queue manager is to be brought up?

Any insights from your experience will be appreciated.

Thanks

The installation will create and initialise the /var/mqm directory structure if it does not exist and set correct ownership and permissions if it does.
