While installing CSD02 over WMQ 6.0 on a Windows 2003 Server, I get the error - "IBM Websphere MQ files are in use. Stop activity and retry (AMQ4757)". But I dont seem to see any MQ processes running. Any advice ?
Thanks in Advance. |

Search here for "files in use".
It's a common problem with Windows, and has to do with things having DLLs open. _________________ I am *not* the model of the modern major general. |

There should be posts about stopping Performance Monitoring. That will likely clear the problem up. _________________ I am *not* the model of the modern major general. |

There are no performance monitors on this system. Its in fact a fresh Win2003 server.
Do I have to reboot the server if I install CSD this way ? I wouldn't be able to do that without the consent of the Administrator. The refresh pack is installing now, I hope it doesn't ask me to reboot.
Thanks Jeff. |

There's a windows performance monitoring service. It's usually installed and turned on even if it's not being used.
It grabs onto MQ dlls that provide perfmon counters.
Yes, using MQPINUSEOK=1 means you will have to reboot the machine. _________________ I am *not* the model of the modern major general. |

There is another switch 'MQPREBOOT=' which can be used to suppress a reboot, 0 (zero) for suppress and 1 (one) for unprompted reboot.
Bear in mind that you have only deferred installation by use of 'MQPINUSEOK' until reboot. _________________ It's puzzling, I don't think I've ever seen anything quite like this before...and it's hard to soar like an eagle when you're surrounded by turkeys. |

hmm...not sure i understand what u mean by 'only deferred the installation'. when i do a 'dspmqver' the version shows up as 6.0.2.0. i would think a reboot is not needed. can you please explain what are the implications if i do not reboot after CSD installation ? I just created the qmgr and objects last night and so far everything looks good. am i missing something ?
thanks in advance. |

The 'Quick Beginnings' manual states:
MQPINUSEOK 0|1 Specifies whether to continue even if a file is found to be currently locked by another application. If you choose to continue even if a file is currently locked by another application, then you will need to reboot to complete fixpack installation. If no value is supplied, or if MQPINUSEOK is set to 0, the installation will fail if files are found to be in use by other applications. If MQPINUSEOK is set to 1, the installation will be deferred until you reboot.
I interpret this to mean the replacement files will be written to disk but not used until after reboot. _________________ It's puzzling, I don't think I've ever seen anything quite like this before...and it's hard to soar like an eagle when you're surrounded by turkeys. |

okay, here is one more update. i have been installing on a series of windows servers. the first few of them did not prompt for a reboot and on a dspmqver showed the version as 6.0.2.0.
the last couple of servers are prompting me to reboot and a dspmqver shows the version as 6.0.0.0
thanks. |
