I recently attempted to create a Windows XP only MQ6.0 and Message Broker 6.0 environment.
This is what I did:
Installed MQ6.0
Installed MQ6.0.2.0 fixpac
Installed MB6.0
Installed MB6.0.0.3 fixpac
Installed MB6.0 Toolkit for Windows
I am aware that a fix exists for MB6.0 Tookit for Windows and I downloaded it. (MB60_6002)
However when I try to install the toolkit fixpac (MB60_6002) I'm informed that I can't do that without first messing with RPU.
I'm sort of loath to get involved with RPU (I've been reading the posts) and I'm wondering:
Can I proceed successfully with what I've done so far? (I've looked at what MB60_6002 is supposed to do for my toolkit and I think I can live without it).
If I attempted to install MB60_6002 via RPU would that necessitate blowing everything (MQ6.0 and MB6.0 w/ Fixpac 6.0.0.3) away and starting over, or would RPU allow me to proceed with what I have and just update the toolkit? |

The Rational Product Updater (RPU) only deals with the Toolkit. Go ahead and do the update to the RPU.
When you installed the WMB Toolkit - was the install files arrainged in 4 or 5 "disk" files? If there were 5, then you have v6.0.0.1
If you read the information on the support web page, you will find that you can download the updates as a zip file. You will still use the RPU for the actual update. However, you do need to be sure which version you have already installed.
The Toolkit - Help - About WMB will also show you which version is installed.
By the way, today v6.0.2.0 was released. You will be doing youself a disservice if you do not update your toolkit. _________________ Bill Matthews |

Bill,
Thanks so much for your reply. I am relieved that this RPU program deals only with the Toolkit. I installed the toolkit from 4 CDs and when I run the toolkit and obtain help 'about the toolkit', I see that it is at version 6.0000. I will attempt to run RPU and get the toolkit upgraded to 6.0.2.0
Thanks again,

Go to this site: ftp://ftp.software.ibm.com/software/mqseries/fixes/wbimbv60-zips/
and download MB60_602.zip - its almost 2 gig in size. Also get MB602_IFIX001.zip
Also read this document - http://www-1.ibm.com/support/docview.wss?rs=849&uid=swg27008927
for details on how to use the downloaded zip file.
During the install process, there will be several times where the toolkit will be processed with a -clean ... wicj can run for several minutes - that is normal. After the big upgrade is applied, then apply the ifix.
Cheers

Bill,
After I got your first reply to my initial post, I ran the RPU (first updating the RPU itself) and then kicked off the updates via the RPU (in other words, I didn't download the zip files etc).
I just wanted to let you know that the direct RPU method (not downloading the zips etc) worked fine. My Toolkit is now at 6.0.2 with interim Fix 001 applied and J2EE Connector Tools are at 6.0.1.3.
This RPU was not 'bad' at all and I was pleasantly surprised.
Thanks for your help!

Excellent. Have fun.
If you plan on working with web services then you should get a copy of the IA9O SOAP Nodes supportpac. While you are there, also get a copy of IA9M (which is a sample application being developed using the 602 toolkit) as well as IA9N which as additional samples. _________________ Bill Matthews |

And while your at it, download IH03 to get RfhUtil (a handy message testing tool)
And download MA0T MsgTest Tool, to build automated test scripts to load test your application. It has work very nice for me at two clients. _________________ Joseph
