I ran mqsicreateconfigmgr and had it create a queue manager for the configuration manager use. The creation of this queue manager was of course automated and the details hidden from me. The queue manager was created and then started by the command but the listener was not started. I ran the MQ Explorer and displayed listeners - the TCP listener was not started. I used MQ Explorer to start the listener but the port is still listed as 0. How do I find out what port is being listened to for this queue manager?
This work was done on a Windows XP system.

Hi,

You need to go to MQServices and see if the listener is created. If not then you need to create one. (Right click on QMGR and select New-> Listener).

If a listener is already created, you can view the port by right clicking on the Listener and select Properties. Go to the Parameters tab and you will find the port mentioned. The default configuration usually starts port numbering from 1414.

As I mentioned, this QM was created automatically by mqsicreateconfigmgr and when I looked at its configuration via MQ Explorer, it had 4 listeners, 1 for lu6.2, 1 for SPX, 1 for NETBIOS, and 1 for TCP. All listeners were stopped. I started the listener for TCP and thereby became able to administer it via MO71 on SYSTEM.DEF.SVRCONN. Displaying the properties of the TCP listener, PORT 0 is listed. This doesn't make much sense to me. I'm just wondering if anybody knows whats going on with the listener situation with this automatically created queue manager. What do you mean go to MQ Services?

Note MQ Services was used with the 5.3 MQ Explorer plugin...

If the port is not specified default port 1414 is used.

You can change(alter) the listener or define one of your own and set the port value. The port needs to be available before you can start correctly the listener... We usually set the listener control to qmgr.

If you change the port on the listener you need to stop it and restart it before the change can take effect...

Enjoy
