Hello All
We have MQ on z/OS installation with some default settings ...
SYSTEM parameters ...
CTHREAD=300, IDBACK=20, IDFORE=100,
A new Application will havily use our MQ Batch Trigger Monitor and we want to be shure not to run out of one of these settings and get 2025-ers.
First Question: How can be identified on which counter a job/connection/thread counts toward IDBACK or IDFORE or CTHREAD ?
Second:
What could be the problem we would face when setting i.e.
CTHREAD=1000, IDBACK=200, IDFORE=200 ?
or
why not setting
CTHREAD=10000, IDBACK=1000, IDFORE=1000 ?
Thank you for any suggestion.
Ciao

1. this is explained in the system setup guide. see cthread parameter. it tells you which "system" takes how many connections.
2. define what you need + some extra. i dont think it will eat up memory if you take higher values and only less is used. but i would pick a realistic value (your queuemanager should be able to handle it)
you can use "display thread" to see the type of connection (Batch/CICS/IMS/....) _________________ Regards, Butcher |

Hello Mr Butcher
Thank you very much for reply.
I can see the "Batch connections".
But still I can not distinguish the Batch connections which count toward IDBACK and which one count toward IDFORE.
Can you tell how ?
Maybe there is some deeper sense why MQ should distinguish between theese two ?
And after reading the system setup guide part with "CTHREAD" i still can not say and understand why i should NOT set IDBACK connections to 1000. What can go wrong with that ? what are the negative points here ?
There must be a reason why they set default to only 20 ...

Read about CTHREAD, IDFOR and IDBACK in the system stup guide. Fairly straightforward descriptions.
Then, as the setup guide suggests, read the plannaing guide for advice on sizing these.
There are various ways to launch work in z/os: batch, started task, cics, ims, tso... |
