I'm new to MQ.
Is there any advantages to running MQ on a Unix or NT machine? |

Advantage in what way?
MQ works great on many platforms and is priced differently for most...what does the business demand? How many queue managers are you planning, MQ is probably the least of your worries it works just fine regardless. |

If you need to build a high availability system that's easier on Unix than on Windows, but that has more to do with the opperating system architecture that MQ!
It really depends on what your business drivers are. _________________ Honesty is the best policy.

Of course if you want high availability, you might not be able to out-do a mainframe.... but, I digress...
The whole purpose for making MQ the way it is, was to make it perform seamlessly among all the different platforms it is supported on. _________________ IBM Certified MQSeries Specialist

If you have budget for a mainframe, you wouldn't consider the question of high availability, for the reasons you're alluding to.
If your business has more modest pockets then it's easier to build reliable Unix than Windows. _________________ Honesty is the best policy.

What are your requirements?
If you don't want to commission a new computer and associated extra admin that goes with that, you can still run MQ wherever your other systems are running. That's an advantage of MQ - there's a version of it on many platforms. Also (depending on how you use it) it can be run in a very small footprint, again encouraging its use on an existing system.
If you want a very big capacity though (large messages, deep queues, high throughput etc.) then perhaps think of buying a new computer.
But, as I said above, it depends on what your requirements are. |
