Which is the best MQ Monitoring tool out there?
ITM Omegamon, QPASA, QNAMI, etc.?
Can anyone share from their experiences, or preferences. |

The one that works the way you want it to.
They all monitor the same things.
Well. Not QNAMI.
That's a transaction monitor, and not an MQ monitor. It monitors the same things as products like Bristol's TransactionVision - and not as products like QPasa. _________________ I am *not* the model of the modern major general. |

We are looking for a good monitoring tool that will ease with Administration and allow greater visiblity into our MQ environment. |

What existing monitoring tools do you have?
Again, all of the MQ monitoring solutions pretty much do the same things and provide the same information. _________________ I am *not* the model of the modern major general. |

Why dont you elaborate on the tools that you have experience(if any) with, and what you have seen good/bad, etc. |

I am asking for peoples experiences, not to make a choice for me.
I brought in both Transaction Vision, and Omegamon from IBM, and they seem to be doing an okay, job, but I may be evaluating other tools soon.
Perhaps, someone else can share an opinion than you. |

I was impressed with Omegamon for MQ. I only used this on and, as far as I know only runs on, a mainframe. As far as the other platforms are concerned, I know QPasa is popular in some circles. My experience with it is limited and I am not trying to plug it here. I simply can say it was providing what the customer was looking for at the time.
As the Grand Poobah said, there are several of them out there. Have you checked out the Monitoring Tools forum here? Although, that may just tell you about others problems and very little about a product's capabilities. _________________ IBM Certified MQSeries Specialist

We currently use MQSoftware's QPasa. I am fairly pleased with it, although it in no way configures itself. We use it mostly for real-time screen displays and automated alerting. It is possible to configure alerts that consider several variables for each alert.
In the past, I used the contact admin product. That was around the year 2000. It was fairly complicated to configure, but I have heard from others that the newer versions are much easier and it is supposedly a nice product, too.
I would recommend looking into both of these products.

Thank you both for your suggestions.
We have Omegamon right now, and it does seem like it is a fairly complicated product, and it does not seem as user friendly as I would like. It is drastically different from say m071 or no monitoring at all, but the overhead of the tool is quite extensive, and giving this tool to my developers is not a solution.
We went through a long POC on the product, and we dont know if this is the best fit. |

Not sure what you want to give to your developers..... but I can tell you that I have developed several custom QPasa views for developers which are specific to their projects. The first one took a long time cause I didn't know what I was doing. With each subsequent view, it went much faster. But each view does require a few hours of work.
QPasa also has custom navigation trees that are extremely easy & fast to configure. They are not as pretty as customized views, but it speeds up access to queues & channels so your developers do not have to drill down very far to see them.
If you decide to evaluate QPasa, I'll be happy to talk with you more about it. Just send me a private message. |

Thank you very much for the suggestion, and the tip. With Omegamon you can do some of the similar things with the customized views. And that too takes quite a bit of time to configure, esepcially within the GUI and the agents themselves.
I will def. send you a private message if we do plan to bring in that vendor to talk, and would not mind asking you if there is something I may overlook. Thanks! |

If your long POC on Omegamon XE did not include building portal views for development teams... then maybe your POC didn't cover all your use cases.
All of the monitoring tools that I have worked with have included some tool or another for building customized views into the monitoring infrastructure. Given the nature of this problem - build a customized view into anything - this is a complex task and so none of them are necessarily easy. _________________ I am *not* the model of the modern major general. |
