On a SDR channel, we have to define the remote IP or the Host name
in the CONNAME field.

If we use a Name, to be resolved by a DNS,
...
HOW OFTEN IS THIS RESOLUTION DONE ?
...
a) only when channel becomes active
b) once per sent message
c) any other value

Would you be so gentle to provide a pointer to the book where this info can be found ?

Thanks a lot.

DNS resolution is performed whenever the name needs to be looked up.

That would be no more often than when the channel needs to establish a network connection. It's possible that MQ also does some caching of network name resolution - although I'd say it's not terribly likely - so that it won't be resolved AS often as every time a connection eneds to be opened.

Jeff - what you say sounds very "logical"

If it's documented, it should be in the Intercommunications guide.

If it's not documented, you should be able to get at least an answer for WHY it's not documented by opening a PMR.

I would *think* that dns resolution is done every time the channel starts .... in V6 there is a "nameserver" substate that you should see in the channel status when the MCA is doing name resolution ....

If you have control of the nameserver you're using, you can increase the debug level to check....

There is a general answer to this one. If something is not documented, it is because IBM may vary the way that it is done in later releases.

A good case in point is the recent thread about when expired msgs get deleted, which markt said changed in v6, but it is still not documented.

And anyway jeff, there is no need to make MORE work for that gallant band of hard-pressed people in the WMQ service teams worldwide, bless 'em!

If sebastia has an absolute requirement to produce IBM documentation on this subject or an official explanation of why it's not documented... then it's not me that's making more work for the support staff. If sebastia doesn't have an absolute requirement for this... then I'd be suprrised if sebastia bothered with a PMR.

And it may be that this is supposed to be documented (if it's not), and opening a PMR would bring tihs missing documentation to the notice of the right people, and cause the docu to be updated... which causes less work for the support staff.

Cheers.
