We have to migrate a MQ 5.0 (under NT 4.0) to a W2003 machine.
First try will be with MQ 5.3
Can someone provide a list (or a pointer to ) of diferences between 5.0 and 5.3 ?
Thanks. |

Aside from one's much, much further past it's sell-by date than the other?
There's a "What's new" in the Windows manual. Biggest thing is the change to the Java support - before 5.3 it was a support pack, after 5.3 it's built in. _________________ Honesty is the best policy.

Vitor : I am very sorry to say I dont understand your sentence ...

What is "one's much" ? "sell by date" ?
As we are migrating a running application, I think we are NOT interested on items that have been Added in 5.3, but are interested in something that could be "removed" or (worse) "changed".
That could prevent our old application to run on the new (?) mq 5.3
Lets say Java 1.1 in mq 5.0 and java 1.5 in mq 5.3 could do that !
Thanks anyway. |

Apologies - it's the end of a long and frustrating day in the UK. I was intimating (in a misjuged attempt at humour) that 5.3 is nearing the end of it's working life, and 5.0 is way, way past the end.
As I intimated, the biggest change was the support for Java applications. MQ doesn't use Java itself and IIRC didn't support it before 5.1. After that there was a support pac (MA82??) that allowed Java to connect to a queue manager. In 5.3 the Java support became part of the base product, evolving through the life of 5.3. With CSD 8 it evolved, briefly, into Java support that didn't support Java terribly well. If you've got a Java app, make sure you apply the latest CSD to 5.3 asap.
Apologies for any confusion caused. Time for a lie down I think _________________ Honesty is the best policy.

If your apps work at 5.0, they will work at 5.3, unless they rely on a bug which has since been fixed.
Off the top of my head I can only think of one such bug, where the OriginalLength field in the MD was incorrectly filled in for all msgs, not just for segmented report msgs.
It would be advisable to compile and link your apps with the 5.3 libraries _________________ MQSeries.net helps those who help themselves.. |
