hello,
My understanding is that :
The MQMD format will tell that a message includes MQRFH2.
The MQRFH2 is the first part of the message body.
Now my two questions.
1. Where in the MQMD is this told ?
2. Why is the first part of the message body used to store this in ?
I'm qurious to your answers... |

It would seem you've answered your own first question.

Where else would you put a header? _________________ Honesty is the best policy.

In my understanding headers are not normally stored in the messagebody, but in the MQMD. Because I've just seen a message using PQEdit. Where every header is displayed as usual and then a JMS header is added to the original message. |

The MQMD is a fixed length header, with a specific and exact set of fields.
There is no room in it for any other headers.
A "JMS" header is an MQRFH2 header, that has a specific folder named "jms" in it. _________________ I am *not* the model of the modern major general. |

Thanks Jeff....
So it all comes down to a matter of space/room. For some reason I allready had a feeling like that. I just couldn't believe it.
Do you also know what field in the MQMD is indicating RFH2 is used ? |

You've already said it yourself - the format in the MQMD indicates the use or otherwise of an RFH2 _________________ Honesty is the best policy.

The Format field of the MQMD indicates the format of the first section of the message body.
If the MQMD Format indicates that the first section of the message body is a header, then the Format field of the header indicates the format of the next section of the body.
You could have 100 MQRFH2 headers in a message if you wanted. _________________ I am *not* the model of the modern major general. |

Couple-IT or anyone else involved - I am also forced to use VB (via Microsoft Access) to create my MQ message. I can generate and Put the message fine, but it requires the RFH2 header in order to translate properly. The problem is I can't find any VB/VBA sample code that does this properly. Do you have any leads? Thanks. |

You might want to use XMS for .NET. _________________ I am *not* the model of the modern major general. |

If you don't want to go with XMS (which is the more future proof), there's some example code here:

Standard disclaimer - I'd didn't write this code, my inclusion of this link is in no way an endorsement of the code, blah, blah, etc. _________________ Honesty is the best policy.
