using the reset content descriptor is the same
as using a compute node and reseting there the properties values (msg domain, set type andformat).

is that correct?

In my understanding Yes. I think the documentation states that if you use RCD, the next time the flow needs to parse it, it is parsed with the new info. In reality i have observed that when the message leave the RCD, at that stage itself a parse happens and in cases where it cannot map to the model set by the RCD it gives an exception.

i think it depends on whether u set the parsing to "immediate" or "on demand"
