Hi There,
My company (Insurance Industry) trying to upgrade WMQv5.3 to WMQv6 in early next year.
Currently, we have WMQ 5.3 CSD11 on Solaris Box(es) using VCS Clusters.
A couple other team members were suggesting to have WMQv6 on brand new AIX boxes so that we can avoid using VCS Clusters and use MQ Cluster environment.
What I'm interested in here is to find out the PROS & CONS of using WMQv6 on AIX versus Solaris.
If somebody can shade light on this topic or share their experience OR any other resources where I can spend sometime would be wonderful.
Thank you, _________________ IBM Certified System Administrator - WebSphere MQ 5.3 |

Remind your colleagues that a) MQ Clustering is supported in v5.3 and works just as well, b) MQ Clustering is not a failover or HA solution, regardless of version.
If you need HA, then you need HACMP on Unix.
But you should use v6 no matter what. _________________ I am *not* the model of the modern major general. |

Hi Jeff,
Thank you for your response.
Avoiding VCS Cluster is NOT the primary factor to switch from Solaris to AIX. Basically, I wanted to know the use of PROS & CONS of these two operating systems for WMQv6.
So, I'm still looking to find out what would be the Advantages of using AIX over Solaris for WMQv6.
Thank you again for your input.
Much Appreciated!!! _________________ IBM Certified System Administrator - WebSphere MQ 5.3 |

I am pretty sure this is a typo, but just for the record
If you need HA, then you need HACMP on AIX, VCS (or similar) on Solaris, MC Service Gaurd on HP-UX. |

In my opinion, WMQ alone should not be the driving reason for choosing your operating system. We have had only expected and solvable problems with both platforms. What else will be running on this server? If you have WAS running, I have heard people talk of a definite preference for Solaris over AIX -- citing stability issues with WAS on AIX. If you are also running message broker, I would prefer AIX (nothing empirical to support my preference). The broker is stable on this OS, and I have heard of threading problems with broker on Solaris. |

Yep.
It was something resembling a typo.
I wasn't sure how to correct it, though. _________________ I am *not* the model of the modern major general. |
