It appears like IBM CM ( content Manager) has Workflow built in. If you have seen the product please let me know the following:
1. Is the workflow in CM is same as MQWF?
2. if so, is it full fledged Workflow version?
3. WHy would IBM have two products that does the same thing MQWF and CM with WF built in.
Please clarify |

Hi,
Content Manager has embedded "advanced" workflow functionality, focussing on document routing capabilities. The product is not using MQ Workflow, but instead can be integrated with MQ Workflow. |

Thanks hos!
You have mentioned that CM is using "advanced" Workflow functionality different from MQWF. If I have enterprise Workflow interacting with various other systems through UPES implementaions, can I replace the system using MQWF workflow with the CM Workflow? |

My Opinion
You may be able to get the CM Workflow components to intereact with the other systems, but to my knowlege you will not be able to use the UPES code, as I do not believe the CM workflow will support this. In other words, you would have to re-write the app.
To me, the great strength of MQWF is that it is a general purpose workflow engine, that does not care what you hook to under the covers. So integrating CM into MQWF would not be an issue. I would imagine that CMs workflow is well tuned to access CM, but probably not as easy to integrate elsewhere

CM's Advanced workflow has only brought in some nice capablities such as parellel routing and graphical builder that were mssing. It basically takes a leaf from advanced workflow in CM on iSeries, actually very close to it than MQWorkflow.
CM Workflow can never 'replace' MQWF. CM Workflow is document centric can ONLY run in the context of a document wheras MQWorkflow can on any context.
You could possibly think of this if ALL your business processes are ONLY document centric.
To do something like what UPES does u would need to write quite a lot of code, its like writing your own UPES. It cannever be as efficient as UPES itself given that UPES uses MQSeries.... Not worth the effort thats my opinion. |
