That is how you will get enough to know about MQ
Reading the manuals also helps you to understand where to look for information when you have a real work related problem to do.

No, of course you don't have to.

It will substantially increase your chances of passing the test, though.

I'm sure someone has.

I'm also reasonably certain they won't help you pass it yourself.

I am not asking some to pass it for me, but at least he can shed some light on exam preparation.

Any one?

Well frankly yes. That's sort of the point of the certification - to prove that you've studied and understood it.

And as vennela points out, knowing your way round the manuals will be a boon in the real world. I've never yet solved a problem by waving my certifications at the machine.

Frankly, it's hard enough to convince certain people that I know what doing by waving my certification at them. Why is it 90% of all management will recruit expensive (but value for money ) consultants, but proceed to ignore their recommendation in favour of ones from the business analyists / accountants / children / some bloke they met in the pub?

Oh can we count the ways that those who want to be 'paper' certified will try to find the cheap and easy path.

I am not MQ certified yet but even I know that 'RTFM' is mandatory if you 'really' want to be proficient at what you are going to be doing. I go out of my way to get/download/buy as many MQ books as I can to support what I do daily in that environment and needless to say, that is how I learned what I do know about MQ.

The many masters on this board have helped me to clarify things that I found totally confusing or when at wits ends and the manuals just don't help in that 1 in a 1000 case or in making educated suggestions to help me determine 'my own answer'. Otherwise, I read the manual and learn on my own.

Now, if you want a suggestion on which study book is more helpful in someone's opinion, that is a different story. Sometimes getting suggestions on available study materials beyond the manuals can be helpful based on what others have read and used to prepare. But, if you just want to get paper certified and do it the cheap and easy way, RTM is the only advice anyone on this board will provide, justifiably so.

Have you checked your local bookstore or searched any of the online bookstores like Amazon for MQ study guides? Have you checked into training from a certified training center? Checked IBM's site for IBM sponsored/hosted MQ training classes? If not, you owe it to yourself to check these places first.

Cheers,

Yes, and passed (along with many other people I am sure) but that doesn't mean that I can point you at a specific manual to help you pass.

As I understand it the exam is made up of question from a pool of questions. If I took the exam again I may not even get any of the same questions again.

There is (or used to be) a sample exam on the IBM page...have you thought of trying it?

Yes, and passed

Me too, along with many other people I am sure

On each specific exam page there is a section which gives:
Objectives
Recommended Course material
Sample Test

If you look at the Objectives, you will know on what areas the test is all about. To learn to pass the test, you need to read the recommended material. And always, you can test yourself using the sample test.

Going through the manuals is the best thing to do. You will be able to pass the test and also able to productively work.

Thank you all for comments.

But what makes you think that I just want to be a paper certified.
What I was looking for is some one sharing his exam experience. I also know that problems dont get solved by papers. But right now I am preparing for exam so I needed some one who already passed the exam and share his experience for example is he working with MQ? How long it took him for preparation? Hours of study a day? Is the IBM material enough or have to purchase some specific book? etc...

When working with any product is very different than taking exam for the same?

I recently passed IBM XML test, while I use only XML and XSLT in daily job, I had to study XPATH, XSL-FO, Xlink etc.

It is very different when it comes to exams.

So post your experiences here not your speeches

(Not to hurt any ones feelings...)

Look.....the whole point is that those who have taken the exam sign a paper to say that they won't give out information about the exam questions. The IBM training/certification site gives you a breakdown of the exam and the suggested reading material required for those.

My experience (and I work with MQ most of the day) is that you could get by without reading the books but that requires a good, sound working knowledge of MQ and unless you have a lot of different platforms at your shop, then even this isn't really enough without having read at least some of the IBM manuals for other platforms.

The IBM manuals should suffice but there is nothing like hands on experience. If you have the resources get busy experimenting.

Other peoples experiences wont really help you, exams are down to the individual and how good you are at learning?

Some people can just read a book, memorise what they've learnt and pass an exam!
Some people have to work at it and need practical experience too!

It really is down to the individual and only you can answer that!
