Hi,
In our system, we are expecting about 0.5 million messages per day at the peak rate 0.1 million/hr.
Currently we are planning to have one QM and many no of queues.
Does Increase in number of Queue managers increases performance. If so in what way?.
Thanks in Advance,
Poorna. |

If you are on a unix platform, it will increase performance because some
of the queue manager operations require the queue manager to complete
before moving on, such as writing logs/queues with persistant messages,
however if you are using just non-persistant messages and dont exceed the 64kb message buffer size (or increase with Tuning parm) there is no writing to the disk for those type of messages.
NOTE: I would suggest you test it in your enviorment, it may help a lot or
not much at all _________________ Jeff

MQSeries 5.2 optimised the log locking code and if two queue managers were competing for the same disk array, it might even be slower.
The key to persistent message throughput is fast DASD, preferably either ESS or disks with Fast-write cache.
I would start with one QM, tune the disk subsystem, use MQ 5.2 or later and see how you get on. |

That is precisely what I was trying to say if the queue manager locks the log until 1 transaction is complete, however with 2 queue managers you now have the ability to have the second queue manager access the second set of logs. I have seen MQSeries handle more than the .5 million messages a day, I seen as many as 1.8 million messages. _________________ Jeff
