I've installed MQ (server) on an NT box. Users will have the Client installed on their machines. Do I need to install the client version on the NT box also?

No need. Only the MQ Server is required to host the queue manager. The clients can connect to the queue manager on NT without installing any client support on the server. The only reason you might want the client installed as well is to allow client based applications to connect to the queue manager on the local machine.
