There are some people at my company who want me to change the queue manager names on all of the websphere boxes to be the same name. The names are currently based on the server where it resides. For example, if the server name is webprod1, the queue manager name is WEBP01P1. If there were two queue managers on this box, its name would be WEBP01P2. We are very comfortable with our naming standards. The xmitqs and channels also are named with the same standards.

What problems could arise if the same qmgr name is used on multiple servers?
I can think of a few: clustering won't support it, it would be harder for problem determination.
What else?

o You won't be able to communicate from one queue manager to another
o You won't be able to communicate from one queue manager to another
o You won't be able to communicate from one queue manager to another

Its a really bad idea.

If the thinking behind the constant naming is to eliminate the name of the queue manager in the code or definitions, then make the queue manager on each machine the default queue manager and then you can specify "" as a queue manager name in the apps and the default queue manager will be used.

Perhaps you can let us know why the names should be made the same? What is the driving force behind it?
