We want to setup two queue managers on two different servers (Windows 2000) with the same names to share a common disc, thus objects. Only one queue manager will run at any one time, the other being a standby. If one server fails, we would start the other one. We do not want to use clustering. Has anyone done a similar configuration?
Sounds like you might want to look at clustering the Win2k servers (not the queue managers) and use the cluster server support pac (MC74). That way you have one queue manager (residing on a shared drive) that can fail over to the other box if there is a server problem (and therefore only one set of objects to manage).
We have this configuration and it's working well for us.
