Hi,
We are planning to use oracle database for the broker(till now used to have DB2 for WMQI 2.1). Can we have a remote database as a broker database or should that be a local database itself. As far as I saw, I could not find regarding this in the info-center.
Can someone let me know what kind of precautions should we consider inorder to use a remote oracle as broker database(if we can). We will be using WMB 6 with Oracle 10g on AIX 5.2/5.3.
Thank you.

I guess you didn't look very hard in the Info Center.

Yes, you can use a remote Oracle database. This has all the same potential problems as accessing any remote database.

Also, make very sure that you only use a supported version of either the Oracle client if using a remote database or the Oracle local install if using a local database.

So I can access any remote database as broker database by editing the .odbc.ini file (where broker is installed) and having the right client to access the server.
I am confused with one other thing Jeff and would be happy if you clarify this for me please.
How can I determine whether an exec group is a 32-bit or 64-bit one. It's given in doc:
Quote:
If you have defined 64-bit execution groups for a broker, you must define both 32-bit and 64-bit DSNs for the broker database.

Since we'll be using WMB 6, I beleive it should be a 64bit Exec Group. So what does 32-bit and 64-bit DSN 's mean?

The Info Center explains this.
