A vendor has created a software package, implementing MQ JMS functionality. The package requires and supports WS MQ 6.0. The vendor claims no responsibility for 5.3 queue managers.
All MQ specific jars (this is a Java application) need to be added to the software package by us - the client. Using the 5.3 specific Jars, the software package does not work at all, but when we supply the 6.0 specific jars the package seems to work very well against an MQ 5.3 queue manager as well.
My question is simple: Do the 6.0 MQ jars officially support JMS functionality on a 5.3 queue manager? or is it just working by pure accident? |

The MQ client, in all forms, is backwards compatible with older versions.
This means that a v5.3 JMS client should be able to connect to a v5.0 queue manager. I wouldn't recommend it, though.
So, yes, it should be officially supported to use the v6 client to connect to a v5.x queue manager.
If the v5.3 jars don't work for this application, it's likely that the application is using the JMS 1.1 spec, instead of the JMS 1.0 spec. I think JMS 1.1 is only supported with v6. _________________ I am *not* the model of the modern major general. |

It makes sense!
And you are correct! It does use the 1.1 spec.
Appreciate your response! Thank you! |
