How about this for an opening gambit?
Upgrading is when you change the level of a product by applying new software, migration is when you also need to take specific action to make the existing configuation available / visible / work with all or part of the new software. In MQ terms I'm thinking of MQSI 2.1 -> WMB 6.0 as an example.

Maybe upgrade is you stick with the same software, but a newer version, while migration is moving to a markedly different set of software... even with just an upgrade changes often have to be made. Of course, the IBM Marketeers have a penchant for changing names of products, so maybe you never have to upgrade, only migrate |

I can agree with that; MQSI is a markedly different set of software to MB6... _________________ Honesty is the best policy.

Thanks for putting my spiining head at rest.
It was MQSI to MB6 migration that had spinned me.I was wondering why no other MQ product had migration docs for its upper versions. |
