Hi All,
Off late I have seen some misleading information posted in these forums by folks who are "Masters". I guess if some one is not sure about the exact answer they should clearly say things like "I think" or "I guess" so that the person who posted the question would know that this answer is a best guess or an opnion of the person.
It is well understood that forums never come with a warranty and folks would not offer any support if some one follows their advice and mess the system:-). I guess mqseries.net's policy of granting the user titles just basing on sheer number of posts is not that good of an idea but it cant be more practical.
I think the mods here need to make a sticky or something letting people know NOT to give misleading or incorrect information and if they are guessing some thing, mention it clearly in their reply.
Thanks
P.S Soon I may be becoming a master myself. LOL _________________ Thanks

I always look at "IBM" or "Hursley" in the location as an indication of confidence.
Or jefflowrey in the name.
But as his signature correctly points out:
"Grand Master just means 'posts too much'" _________________ Honesty is the best policy.

If you had used the same forum name all the way, you would have been a grandmaster already. |

A. This won't do anything for the people that are posting bad info intentiionally.
B. This won't do anything for the people that think they are posting correct info but in fact are not.
If you suspect a post is wrong, pipe up! Let's get it out in the open and correct it. You know what, maybe it is correct and you are wrong.
Looking for Hursley or IBM in the name means nothing. Anyone can put that there.
I would hope you test any advice given before trying in production. As much as I lament the fact that IBM doesn't sponser this site, they can't, unless they restrict all answers to official IBM people. In other words, if you need a 100% guaranteed answer, open up a PMR with IBM. _________________ Peter Potkay

I understand what Koko is saying to a certain extent, but with any forum they are only there to give advice and to discuss issues and for people to learn.
As Peter said any advice given should be tried out in test and if it doesn't work or you don't agree with what someone has said then say so.
From reading posts you can normally tell from the reply given whether to trust the advice and then try it out for yourself.
If people helped themselves a bit first by doing some research and testing before posting you may find the advice given carries more weight.
This forum is invaluable to the MQ community, so keep up the good work one and all. _________________ Regards

Whilst I fully understand what you are saying about the "Master" and "Grand Master" titles I am not sure why this is such a worry. I for one never look to see what status a person has as Jeff nicely states "Grand Master just means posts too much"
If you disagree with the advice or statements made, then call it out, that is the only way someone will learn (including the errant poster). I know I have been corrected on several occasions or had someone disagree with some of my posts.
I guess that those 'new to MQ' may take incorrect/bad advice literally but in my experience bad or incorrect advice tends to get corrected by somebody pretty quickly.
If you see such posts, then correct them. Trying to censor the posts or scan them for correctness will be very time consuming and will lead to people hesitating to post IMHO.
As Peter says, nobody should rely on a solution provided in here without testing the advice and one of the best ways of doing this is to crack open a manual. Who knows, maybe if they had done that in the first place they wouldn't need to post?
Peace out |

No "forum" can be guaranteed to have 100% correct info. Hence the title "forum" where people can relate their own experiences and even "non-documented" workarounds.
As with any advice (even from IBM) people here should make sure that,
1. The advice makes sense and
2. test it out on a test box and not jump into production.
Most of the us here are using the forum as a free service and expecting Brandon (sic?) to do more is asking for a little too much.
As for the authenticy or reliability of forums .... one piece of advice NEVER believe a post in a forum which start off with " I never thought it could happen to me but last week when I answered the door ..... " |

I agree with kevinf2349, even more when I first realized that as a person's designation changes it is changed for all that person's previous posts. So you may read something from a "Master" that was posted way back when s/he was a "Newbie" and not know the difference. |
