Hi all,
A simple question on dead letter queues.

1. The QM automatically creates the Dead letter queues right. So what is the need of creating a new dead letter queue?

2. Are there any advantages in creating a new dead letter queue or why do we have to create one if the default one is specified?
I appreciate your reply.

1. No need actually.
2. A default one is specified, but not assigned to the QMGR by default. You need to alter the QMGR to specify the DLQ in the attribute called DEADQ

The qmgr only creates a dead letter queue if you tell it to. I don't believe that it will create SYSTEM.DEAD.LETTER.QUEUE unless you explictly add that to the crtmqm command (or on the pane in Explorer).

OOps. That's wrong. SYSTEM.DEAD.LETTER.QUEUE is created automatically.

There's never, by the way, more than one DLQ for a Qmgr.

There are reasons to use a differently named DLQ than SYSTEM.DEAD.LETTER.QUEUE - avoiding using any SYSTEM objects for application data, etc. But that's mainly a matter of style and naming standards rather than function.

In my opinion, it's always better to use the same name for all your DLQs. So you never have to think about what name to use when you're trying to look at the DLQ.
