Hi,
I read the IBM software announcement for Websphere V6 but still have some questions about z/OS. I thought I would try the experts here...
1) If we load V6, can we run Websphere MQ as 32-bit in order to still interface with 32-bit DB2 (pre version 8.0) addressing?
2) Can V6 be loaded on 32-bit z/OS hardware?
3) If we get DB2 version 8.0, will we have to upgrade to Websphere MQ V6.0?
4) With V6, does it use 64-bit addressing under the covers for the implementation of local queues or is that also configurable?
5) Are there any z/OS backwards compatibility problems between V6 and V5.3 (excluding the 32 vs 64 bit addressing)?
6) To use the Eclipse interface, is there any way to still use it without enabling the Websphere z/OS MQ client (that is so expensive)?
Thanks,
Mike

If you are looking at just doing the admin... There is a simple way.
Load the full package on a distributed qmgr.
Connect there with the MQexplorer. Setup the channels between MF and distributed qmgr. Then use the MQExplorer to connect to the MF going through the distributed qmgr. ==> implies a default path back and forth.
Then administer the MF throuth the distributed qmgr. No expensive stuff like CAF to pay for.... Just one more distributed license....

Hi
You are probably better off asking IBM these questions to get a definitive answer however, there should be no issues with version 6.0 talking to version 5 queue managers and (as far as I am aware) there is no DB2 pre-req except for if you use shared queues.
But the best bet is to contact IBM and ask them. |
